Shell Celebrates 150 Victories with Ferrari

This summer marked the 150th time a Ferrari has crossed the Formula One finish line in first place, running on Shell racing fuel, at the French Grand Prix. Felipe Massa finished first with Kimi Raikkonen finishing second. This shared history of success dates back almost 60 years to Scuderia Ferrari’s first ever victory, The Silverstone Classic in Palermo in 1951, with José Froilián González at the wheel of a Ferrari Type 375.

"To achieve 150 Formula One victories with Ferrari is a fantastic milestone for Shell," said Juan Carlos Perez, general manager of global sponsorships, Shell Brands International. "It gives us yet another amazing statistic to add to the nine Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) Formula One Constructors' World Championship titles and 12 drivers’ titles that Ferrari won with support from Shell. All the lessons we've learned and the boundaries we've broken while reaching this milestone have contributed to the development of our Shell V-Power® fuel and Shell Helix engine oil for the road."

Today Shell is an integral part of the Ferrari team, analyzing fuel and oil samples in a mobile laboratory on the track at each race. The Shell Formula One project team continues to grow and this year more than 50 Shell technical staff are contributing to the Shell Formula One program with Ferrari; based in Shell laboratories and facilities around the world, back at the Scuderia Ferrari factory in Maranello and travelling to the 18 race tracks. This is clearly much more than a sponsorship - it is a technical collaboration.

The extensive technical relationship between Shell and Ferrari is an essential part of the company's overall design and development strategy as it seeks to create better products for the road. Over the past 60 years, Shell has used its technical relationship with Ferrari as a learning platform for new technologies and has transferred the learnings from the track - with Ferrari - to the road - with Shell customers.
