For the first time, the Gunnison Car Club, located in Gunnison, Colo., honored an exemplary member of the automotive enthusiast community with the newly-created Lee Iacocca Award during the 21st Annual Gunnison Car Show August 22-24. Sam Memmolo was selected as the club's inaugural recipient. Memmolo is the host and star of the "Two Guys Garage" nationally syndicated radio show and also is the Shell spokesperson known as Dr. FuelGood™. Through both forums, he helps educate America about the importance of using high-quality fuel. This one-of-a-kind award was created by the Iacocca Foundation for car clubs and shows to acknowledge automotive enthusiasts and their passion for maintaining an American tradition. Destined to become one of the most coveted awards within the car show circuit, proceeds from each local car show go to the Iacocca Foundation for Type 1 diabetes research. This year's Gunnison Car Show drew all sorts of cars from 1960 Porsches to 2008 Corvettes. Cars were entered from the states of Colorado, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Kansas. The show kicked off with a cruise-in Friday evening, followed by an open car show all day Saturday and concluded with a breakfast cruise Sunday morning. Also featured was a "High Octane" Arts and Crafts festival concurrent to show events. The Gunnison Car Club values offering an open car show, where anyone with a passion for their vehicle is welcome to showcase it during the three-day affair each year and meet other car enthusiasts from across the country. This year, there were more than 320 cars and 2,500 people present to see Memmolo receive this special award, and was attendees were excited to meet him and his wife Diana.
